How’d you get into education? I am unapolegetically idealistic. I have always felt that I need to do more than sit at a desk for 9 hours a day, running numbers, scheduling and attending meetings, and all that othe stuff that “adults” do on a daily basis. I am a product of a flawed but overall decent educational system, and just like with life in general, I hope that I leave it at least a little better than when I arrived.
What is your purpose? My initial goal as a teacher is to inspire these kids to want to learn more, and do more. I realize that it isn’t the end of the world if they don’t know what a compound sentence is, or what the associative property of multiplication is, but I want them to never be satisfied with a normal, average life. I think that idea, that we should never be happy with “just enough”, which I think is one of those unspoken evils that just absolutely kills motivation, especially in underprivileged communities, is one that I am personally trying ot squash as soon as possible.
Anything else you wanna add? I love teaching. Its like a performance, half personality and half intellect. It is a truly amazing profession which completely changes how you see everything. I am honored to have gotten the opportunity to affect peoples life in a way that is simultaneously subtle and extreme.
