How’d you get into education? I was always interested in education from as far back as I can remember. The interest became serious when I involved myself in ed-related extracurricular activities and jobs during college. In that time, I witnessed firsthand the vast inequities that exist between schools of privilege and schools without privilege. At that point, I knew I wanted work towards changing that. I knew teaching in an urban area was something I wanted to do.
Purpose? In my eyes, an equitable education is one where every student receives the opportunity to reach his or her highest potential, regardless of where they choose to go to school. Our country, as of now, is far from providing an equitable education to every student. My purpose is to provide an equitable education to every student that steps into my classroom, in hopes that every small deed might lead to something greater.
Anything Else? Teaching has affected and helped me grow in so many ways. Whether it be growth in perspective, work ethic, or personality, I thank the teaching profession for giving me a life far more interesting and purposeful than I could have hoped.
